Clinics We Offer
Diabetic Clinic
Diabetic Clinics are held every Friday morning, with Tina, the Practice Nurse. Patients have a full review every year or more often if necessary. Tina is a Prescribing Nurse, so can adjust insulin and any medication necessary. This saves arduous visits to the hospital. Tina can also refer on to the Podiatrist, who holds a clinic here, if necessary. Any diabetics who need to be seen at other times can make an appointment at any of Tina's clinics. If Tina is unavailable, the other Practice Nurses are quite capable of dealing with any diabetic queries.
Long Term Conditions
People with long term condition, such as asthma, diabetes, COPD, hypertension, and mental health will be invited in to the Practice on or around their birth month via a green letter from the Practice.
This will consist of a thirty minute appointment enabling the Practice and the patient to work together to manage their condition effectively
Baby Clinic
Baby clinics are held on Tuesday mornings from 08:00 to 11:00 at Bolton Road. These clinics are run by the Practice nurses.
You can have your baby regularly checked and weighed and discuss any minor problems and worries. A doctor is available for advice at the baby clinic on Tuesdays.
Family Planning
We offer a fully confidential family planning advice and counselling service, including the fitting of coils and caps and emergency contraception. We believe sound contraception advice and services play a vital part in the well being of our patients. These clinics run in normal surgery hours. Family planning services are usually required for many years and we will arrange regular checkups to monitor your health.
Cholesterol Screening
We would advise one test per year. You must fast from 10pm the night before your appointment (although you can drink water). Due to the large numbers of results we have to handle, if you do not hear anything from us five days after your test, you may assume your results are okay. If there is a problem, someone from the surgery will telephone you. If you do need to speak to someone about your results, please phone either Bolton Road on a Tuesday between 12.00pm and 2.00pm or between 1.00pm and 2.00pm on a Friday.
Midwifery Services
If you wish to make an appointment, the midwife is available at Bolton Road on Wednesday mornings. They are available at other times by contacting the hospital.
We offer a full GP unit care package for suitable pregnancies and this can be discussed with either the doctor or the midwife.
Adult Immunisation
All adults should be immunised against Tetanus. Elderly patients and those suffering from asthma, chronic chest complaints or diabetes are recommended to have an annual flu vaccination to help protect them. Patients with asthma, heart disease or COPD (chronic bronchitis) should also have pneumococcal vaccination on one occasion. People in high risk occupations (Nursing, Police, etc) should discuss with the practice nurse other immunisations available to protect them.
Childhood Immunisations
Routine immunisations are offered to all children for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Whooping Cough, HIB, Measles, Mumps and Rubella. Pre-school boosters are recommended for children over the age of 4.
Smoking Cessation Clinics
If you feel that you want to give up smoking or want to talk to someone about the different methods of giving up smoking, please ask at the desk for an appointment with Elaine, our smoking cessation advisor. Elaine will offer friendly help and literature. She will be there when you are ready to give up and throughout the giving up period.
